Quick a show of hands here, who wants a laptop? Well who knows what to look for in a laptop? I know like half of every one reading this put your hands down, but then again not many people do know what to look for in a laptop. I’m here to teach you something.
You start your search buy deciding what your gonna be using you laptop for. Do you just surf the net? Do you do video editing or designing? Are you a gamer? Do you love to watch movies on your laptop? Anyway the answers to these questions will narrow down your selection pretty quick, and it will tell you what you should expect to spend.
If your a gamer you definitely want a gaming laptop, and your gonna need a somewhat large budget (Im Mr. obvious sometimes). Your most likely gonna want a custom computer from a place like Alienware. They have some of
the best gaming laptops out. Neway, you need a powerful nVidia graphics card, the Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® 8700M GT and up is what I would personally recommend. Your also gonna need 4 gigs of 667MHz DDR2 memory especially if your planning on running Vista. As for the CPU you want the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo @2.33GHz or better. Lastly for the hard drive, you are gonna want 320GBs of space and up at a speed of 5400 RPM or faster.
But if your looking for an entertainment laptop, you know to watch your movies and all that. (I have one of these) You aren’t going to need a budget quiet like a gamer but I would say you should set aside around $800 or more to get something nice. I personally recommend HP, but then again I love HP, I digress. For a good entertainment notebook you want to look for a larger screen, I would recommend a 17 inch screen. The graphics card should be able to keep up so I recommend the GeForce Go 7600 and better. For entertainment laptops you don’t need an insane CPU but I like the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo @1.66GHz, but better is always nice. As far as memory I suggest 3 gigs but 2 is fine also, and I recommend atleast a 200GB hard drive.
Anyway, It all varies on what you plan on using the laptop for. If your looking for mobility you want something light and small. If your a normal internet user you don’t need much more than a simple $500 computer.
If you got questions ask them here, Ill be more than happy to help you.
