Camera Shopping Made Easy

Well, I just went camera shopping a few days ago, and got an awesome camera just because I know what certain specs really mean. I mean I’m to an expert camera shopper but I do know my way around a camera store. Any way I’m gonna teach YOU what you need to know next time you buy a digital camera.

The MOST common misconception about cameras is the more mega pixels it has the better. NOT TRUE!!!! The more “mega pixels” just make the pictures you take bigger, meaning you can print a larger picture. Really though, how many pictures do you print on 15X17 inch paper? I mean don’t get me wrong a high meg (meg = mega pixel) camera is not a bad thing but it certainly is not the most important thing. What is the most important thing?

It’s actually two things, the ISO equivalence of a camera and the optical zoom you have. Whats ISO? The most over looked specification on a camera. :) Basically “what ISO denotes is how sensitive the image sensor is to the amount of light present. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the image sensor and therefore the possibility to take pictures in low-light situations.” (source: Photoxels - What Is ISO) I knew that but they worded it perfect. I know your saying hey thats what flash is for, but what if your somewhere flash is not allowed or just not enough? You just adjust your ISO and the pictures come out better. As for the zoom, how many times have you taken a picture from across the room and tried to just zoom in but end up with a horribly blurry picture? Or you just want to take a picture of something in a tree, but couldn’t zoom in enough to get a nice picture. Im bad with examples so bare with me. But yeah, The ISO equivalence of a digital camera and its optical zoom are the most important things.

Ok, what about the size of a camera? It’s actually very important to choose the size of your camera wisely because the thicker your camera is the more durable it is. So if you get a thin small camera, you better not drop it, cause it will break. When I was shopping for my camera I noticed that the thin cameras had very flimsy screens, and me being clumsy I stayed away from it.

The last thing you should look for? Good features, You want a camera with some cool features such as auto red eye fix, or a “face focus” feature which focuses in on more than 4 faces, or even different modes for taking pictures. Something like a “night mode” or a “close up mode”, unless your into setting up certian things on your own, you need these types of features.

Good luck and smart buying.
